Almost 8,000 Women Competed at the Fifth-Annual More Magazine Marathon + Half- Marathon

NEW YORK, April 6

NEW YORK, April 6, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The fifth-annual More Magazine Marathon + Half- Marathon, the world's first marathon for women over 40, hosted a record-breaking 7,800 women from all walks of life in Central Park today. Everyone from first-time runners to award-winning, elite runners participated in the day-long celebration of the strength of 40+ women. Additionally, marathon participants raised $30,000 for CARE, an organization that empowers women around the world to help end global poverty.

  The top finishers in the 26.2 mile marathon were:
  1.    Stephanie Hodge; 3:01:50; 42; Long Island City, NY
  2.    Susie Meyers-Kennedy; 3:04:33; 42; Chandler, AZ
  3.    Kelly Keeler Ramacier; 3:04:50; 46; St. Paul, MN

  The top finishers in the 13.1 mile half-marathon were:
  1.    Caitlin Tormey; 1:20:13; 24; New York, NY
  2.    Susan Loken; 1:20:14; 44; Phoenix, AZ
  3.    Jody Hawkins; 1:20:16; 41; Frisco, TX

  The top three half-marathon teams were:
  1.    Loken and Hawkins in 2:40:30
  2.    Tormey and Gordon Bakoulis, 47; NYC in 2:46:57.
  3.    Emmily Chelanga, 27, (Sleepy Hollow, NY); and Brooke Garden,
        (Greenwich, CT) 40, in 2:53:52


The top placing runners in each race were awarded a share of the $12,000 prize purse. The 2008 More Magazine Marathon + Half-Marathon was presented by Aquaphor® Healing Ointment; Corporate Contributing sponsors are South Beach Living™ foods from Kraft, MBT, the anti-shoe, and Dodge Journey.

Supermodel, author and marathoner Kim Alexis hosted the event. Women's running pioneers Lynn Jennings of Portland, Ore., a three-time U.S. Olympian and world champion, Kelly Keeler Ramacier of St. Paul, Minn., two-time Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, Jody Hawkins of Frisco, TX, 2008 USA masters cross country champion, and Susan Loken of Phoenix, AZ, three-time defending More Marathon champion, served as race spokeswomen.
